Coaching is a professional partnership between a qualified coach and an individual or team leader (the client) and their team. Through the process of coaching, individuals get a clear idea of their desired future. And, while keeping the desired future in mind they consider and experiment or ‘try on’ new skills, actions, ways of thinking and feeling. Experimentation along with observation and followed up by reflection enables the client to make the shifts needed to successfully produce the results, stay true to their commitments and realize the desired future.
The client chooses the focus of conversation, while the coach listens and contributes observations and questions as well as concepts and principles which can assist in generating possibilities and identifying actions. Through the coaching process clarity of thought is achieved. Coaching accelerates an individual’s or team’s progress by providing greater focus and awareness of possibilities leading to more effective choices. Coaching concentrates on where individuals are now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in the future.
